Georgia defeats Georgia Tech 76-62

Georgia beat their instate rival Georgia Tech 76-62 on Tuesday Night in Athens to improve to 6-3 on the year. This was Georgia’s first win over Tech since 2019 and it snapped a 2 game losing streak to the Jackets.

Georgia played their most complete game of the year on Tuesday Night and it allowed them to dominate Tech for the majority of the game. The game got off to a slow start for both teams as they combined for only 26 points in the first 12 minutes of action. Georgia led 16-10 at that point but took it to Tech the rest of the night. They were able to stretch the lead to 36-20 before halftime and never looked back. The closest the game got from that point was 13 points with about 14 minutes in the game but Georgia answered back and led by double digits the entire second half.

Noah Thomasson and Just Hill were the stars for Georgia in this one and they combined for 30 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Thomasson led Georgia in the first half with 12 points and was able to get the dawgs going on offense when everyone seemed to be struggling. In the second half, the show was more in Justin Hill’s hands and he knocked down 2 of his threes in the 2nd half to help Georgia maintain a solid lead. The guard rotation should be a strength for Georgia the rest of the year as they have 4 solid guards when you add Silas Demary and Blue Cain in the mix.

The freshman guards were solid for Georgia throughout this one and I thought that Blue Cain played his best overall game as a bulldog. He finished with 12 points on 4-7 shooting (All from 3), 4 rebounds and 2 assists. He has so much potential on the offensive end and will provide Georgia with sparks throughout the year on that end. Silas Demary battled a little foul trouble throughout the game but still finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds. He provides Georgia with so much defensively that even when he is not shooting well, he will be an impact player on the floor.

Russel Tchewa also had a nice game finishing with 7 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists! That is a great assist number for the big man. He will not always light up the stat sheet for the dawgs but I think he is so impactful down low on defense and provides Georgia with force they need. Georgia Tech missed a decent amount of layups and it is hard not to believe they were thinking about Tchewa’s presence.

Injury Updates

Jalen DeLoach sat this out again with an illness so hopefully he will be healthy for the next game on 12/16 against High Point.

RJ Sunahara dressed out and went through warm ups with the team. He did not get any playing time but that was great to see. I would not be stunned if he was back on the floor for High Point as well.

Next game – 12/16 vs High Point (7-3)
