Georgia (5-3) takes on their instate rival Georgia Tech (4-2) on Tuesday Night at 7:30 inside Stegman Coliseum. Georgia is looking to break a 2 game losing streak to Tech and the Dawgs have not defeated Tech since 2019 when Georgia was led by Anthony Edwards.
Georgia will have another challenging task on their hands on Tuesday as their difficult stretch of schedule to begin the year comes to a close. This did not look like a huge game coming in to the year but Tech has beaten two ranked teams (Mississippi St and Duke) in their last two games. This provides Georgia with another opportunity for a quality win to begin the year.
Georgia Tech is led by their junior guard Miles Kelly who is averaging 18.8 points and 6.7 rebounds a game this year. Kelly killed Georgia last year hitting a late three and scoring 17 to lead Tech to victory. Although, he has not been shooting well so far this year (27.5% from 3), his career stats show he is a solid shooter (38% from 3 last year) so Georgia will need to force him into tough shots to have success in this game. The other player Georgia’s defense needs to be keyed on, is freshman forward Baye Ndongo. He has only played in 3 games this year but against Duke he went for 21 and 5 on 9-11 shooting. Ndongo is not a big physical threat inside but provides Tech with a versatile forward who can put the ball on the deck and attack the rim. He had multiple highlight reel alley-oops against Duke so Georgia will need to be keyed on that.
Overall, KenPom has Georgia Tech ranked 125 and 126 respectively in Offensive and Defensive efficiency. These are not great numbers overall but their defense has looked much improved the last two games, where they held Mississippi State to 59 points and Duke to 68. Georgia will likely look to speed this game up on offense so they can create quality looks on that end.
Georgia is coming off their best offensive performance of the year when they put up 80 points in a victory over Mercer. Georgia shot incredibly well this game (8/15 on 3s and 21/40 overall) and was able to make 30 free throws as well. Georgia will have their best offensive performances when they are driving and drawing fouls like they did throughout the Mercer game so they can get easy points at the foul line. Georgia was led by RJ Melendez once again and he really looks to be rounding into form after a shaky start to the year. Silas Demary had 13 points and 7 rebounds and continues to look like he will be one of Georgia’s better players all year, even though he is only a Freshman. It was a solid win for Georgia but they will need to play well again on Tuesday night to defeat Georgia Tech.
Injury Updates
Mike White said that RJ Sunahara was “the same” before the FSU game, so I would guess that means he has yet to practice and will be out.
Jalen DeLoach was out last game with an illness but I would expect him to be back for the game against Georgia Tech.
Projected Starters
| Georgia | Georgia Tech |
| Silas Demary Jr. | Kowacie Reeves |
| Noah Thomasson | Miles Kelly |
| Jabri Abdur-Rahim | Nathan George |

This is another big one for Georgia against the instate rival before the schedule lets up a little. It should be a good one and I will have a post game reaction blog up after this one concludes.
